When I started Paper Issues a little over a year ago, I didn't really know what it was going to be.
I intended it to look like the sites that we all know with a message board, store and gallery.
It turned into something different...and then something a little different after that.
Now it is bigger than I ever could have imagined.
It isn't gigantic by any means. I am not looking to be 2Peas.
That's been done and they are successful.
As much as I hate to see members of our team leave, I guess that is part of the process.
It is time to say goodbye to some favorites and hello to some newbies.
That is where you come in!

Let's Spoon

I think that people are like me and they LOVE Valentine's Day!
I changed up my bathroom so that it is red and aqua too!
I should make a spoon for that room.

Snowman Love

Here in the square states, normally in January and February we have snow.
Lots and lots of snow.
That means snowmen and snowmen love Valentine's Day too!
Valentine's Day is one of my favorite times of year.
I love pink and red and hearts and LOVE!
I also love the Snow Day line from Pink Paislee. There is so much pink!
It is perfect for Valentine's Day!
This is an ever ubiquitous paper cone wreath.
They are addictive to make...and they make your door pretty.
The new theme is up at Paper Issues!
We are having a full month of Valentine's Day!
You know you have a TON of projects...come link up so I can show the world!
It's like a giant show and tell party...just like Kindergarten.

I Make Stuff

In an effort to spare you from my top 10 posts of 2011,
I thought I would make one layout and shove it all in at once.
Ya know when Walgreens has the "get 25 free prints" promotion?
Since I already had enough photos printed, I thought I would order prints of projects.
I just put 2 projects on each collage, saved it in Picasa and uploaded it to their site.
Free! Woot!
My scrappy crush, Mandy Kay, made this layout and I LOVED the title so I stole it.
Kidding...I asked her if I could politely lift it.
This is the hot mess I came up with.
I feel like I have really grown over the past year.
There is only 1 cow sequin. One. Only one.
There is a whole lotta Crate Random! I love that line. Fo sho.

I promise a layout is in my future.

This week I also "discovered" solid color double sided paper from Echo Park.
I don't know why I didn't have any until now, but I didn't.
The Little Boy line is my favorite ever.
Cardstock is way too heavy, it bends instead of curves.
This paper is perfect!
I can make pinwheels all day with no problem and it coordinates! Score!

It's banner time!
This one is for a baby shower...yay babies!
This cloud paper from American Crafts is so awesome.
I love it! It's the perfect shade of blue.
I popped some cloud punchies on there as well because you can never have too many clouds.
The plane is from Echo Park's Little Boy line.
It is my favorite EP line. Evah. evahhhhhh.
I thought that putting the plane on the right hand side would make it look like it was pulling the banner.

I added some amazing Marachino twine from the Twinery!
L.O.V.E. that stuff and it makes nice action swirlies.
Yay for action swirlies!

Quick tip for sticker back die cuts like the plane.
I keep a small container of baby powder at my work station with a paintbrush in it.
I pop dot the back of the sticker, leaving one backing on the pop dot, then "paint" the exposed sticker part with powder. That will make sure it doesn't stick to anything.
Go do it.

Pirates! Arrrgh!

It's a pirate's life for me!
This has been the theme du jour lately.
I love it!
Can't have enough Pirate Parties!

I love these little bags!
I looked everywhere for some small enough to hold popcorn for little people.
I am wearing out my Skull die.
My Sizzix plates are all skulled up!
I drew some dashed lines and X's for an authentic treasure map look. =)

That polka dot paper from Canvas Corp. seemed perfect on these invites!
That Stampin' Up Top Note die is my go-to, for sure!

Pinwheels, pirate flags, stripey banner...what is not to love!?
I think I need a Pirate party for myself.
I used to use a die for those pinwheels but honestly, cutting a 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" square then cutting into the middle from all four corners is SO much less fussy.
Glue them to a stick and Viola! Instant fun!
Echo Park's Little Boy line is perfect.
I have stock piled those papers...I will be covered until I am 110.

Naughty and Nice Gifts

After seeing all the amazing inspiration over at Paper Issues,
I decided I should spruce up my packages a bit.
The wrapping paper is from Hallmark, they are right here in Kansas City, ya know.
I {heart} it.
I am sure I will hear about wrapping Miss Bailey's gift in "naughty" paper,
You haven't truly experienced joy until you have lived with a teenage daughter. Oy.
I can hear it now..."OMG, You are so mean!" "What did I do?" *cry, stomp, slam the door*
I made a rosette from Kraft paper. I use the Martha Stewart scoreboard.
Then I punched a circle from American Crafts HollyDay Sinter Klaas paper.
Layered that with a Star punched from the reverse side of that paper.
I added a little red banner and a name.
You know it's a special occasion when I bust out the woodgrain Dymo tape.
Finished it with some baker's twine from the Twinery and BAM!
It's a prezie!
Woot!

Reindeer Food

This time of year, I like to have these on hand for surprise guests.
They are so easy to make and they don't go bad.
I used this printable as a jumping off point.
Since I am a paper crafter and I own every paper punch known to man,
I thought I would bust out a scallop punch for these!
I used paper from the Hollyday line at American Crafts.
Fact:You can't go wrong when you shove something in a Mason Jar.
Can't go wrong.
This is just oatmeal, glitter sugar and some rainbow ball cupcake decoration thingys.
I don't know the technical term but they are festive.
Wham, Bam, Thank you Ma'am!

These Are a Few of My Favorite Things

I love it when there is a project that brings together so many of my favorite things.
Gift giving...check!
Cute little wooden spools...check
Vintage gingham fabric...check
Hearts!!!!!!!!!!...check
Baker's Twine...check
Mason jars...check!
First I took the top off the jar and hot glued the fabric onto the lid, leaving a small space for stuffing.
I used a 5x5" square of fabric and just glued around the edge of the flat lid.
Then I glued the lid to the ring.
That's it! It's really that easy.
Add some cute twine and heart pins and Bam!
It's a prezie!!

Best Cinnamon Rolls Evah

I love cinnamon rolls.
Really, really good cinnamon rolls.
I admit I am a food snob but life is too short to eat icky cinnamon rolls.
If you make enough of these that there are leftovers, these are even good cold.
Yep. I said cold.
These are so easy you won't believe it.
You will need Crescent Roll dough in a can.
I use the kind that has 50% bigger rolls, they just make bigger cinnamon rolls.
I have used the smaller tubes and they are good too but I like 'em bigger.
One can makes about 6 rolls.
I use 3 cans for a 9x13 pan.
Ok...so we have our fancy dough from a can...now it's time for the magic.
Preheat your oven to 300.
Spray your pan so it doesn't stick.
Grab a stick of butter. I use a whole stick of butter, melted for my 3 cans of dough.
If you are making make fewer rolls, use less butter.
Please Lord Baby Jesus do not use margarine. Would you pour Crisco all over it, no...Use butter.
OK...Your butter should be in the microwave melting...don't make it too hot though.
You don't want it to melt the dough.
While that is warming up, grab some granulated sugar and some ground cinnamon.
Roll out the full tube of dough and press the seams together so that everything stays in.
You don't want all that yummy goodness to fall out.
Mix 1/2 cup of sugar and 2 Tablespoons of cinnamon in a bowl.
You could brush the butter onto the dough or you could pour it on like me.
I like it to pool up. (Fat people are harder to kidnap)
Sprinkle(dump) your cinnamon sugar mix onto the butter.
I like a lot. A.Lot.
Roll it the dough up, I go from short end to short end.
Then cut into 2"(ish) sections.
Place into greased baking pan and bake for 15-20 minutes.
Definitely watch them, you don't want them to get overly brown.
Here is where my family differs...My husband likes cream cheese frosting.
The kids like powdered sugar icing and I like these babies naked.
They are just that good.

I use this icing drizzled over the top if I am forced to:
2 Tbsp butter, melted
1 cup of powdered sugar
milk

Mix butter and powdered sugar and slowly add in milk in tablespoon increments until you get your desired consistency. Add more powdered sugar if it is too thin. Drizzle over warm(ish) rolls if you can stand to wait that long...or just put it on your plate and dip your rolls in it. Woot!

To recap:
2 cans of Crescent rolls
1/2 stick of butter, melted
1/2 cup sugar
2 Tbsp cinnamon

Ima go make these now. Mmmmmm...

I love me some banner action.
For this banner, I used Chalkstock from Canvas Corp.
I seriously LOVE this stuff!
You can write on it, erase it, then write something else!
I layered the chalkstock on top of Black and Ivory Mini Dot Reverse Paper.
I strung it together with black jute, also from Canvas Corp.
When you are ready to erase your message and make another, you can also easily switch out the stars and replace them with anything. I simply clipped the stars on with Canvas Corp mini clothespins.
I made a smaller banner with the My StampBox Pennant stamps.
I stamped the pennants and then cut them out, punched a hole for stringing and Viola!
It's a banner for your banner.
The Happy Birthday pennants can slide right back off the end to leave the rainbow pennants.
Now go make some banner goodness for yourself!

Thankful for Farmhouse

I love this Farmhouse line from Crate.
I am so thankful that I got to grow up on a farm.
This paper reminds me of my childhood.
We used to have yard sticks propped up in a corner in the kitchen.
I still buy them when I see them. I have them in the rafters above my workbench.
They take me back. The paper on the front cover is my favorite for this reason.
There are 14 pages to this mini so I won't bore you with all of them.
They are ready for pictures.

New Camera Strap Cover!

Confession time: I have an amazing, fancy schmancy sewing machine that embroiders and wipes my nose.
The only thing it doesn't do is sew things by itself.
I have planned to make myself a strap cover for my camera forever.
Planned to.
The thought of making something for myself when there are so many other things to do is ridiculous.
So I procrastinated.
Then along came Leah Farquharson.
You know her, you love her, you have mispronounced her last name, no doubt.
She is an amazing paper crafter and seamstress.
You have seen her awesomeness at American Crafts and Fancy Pants and Pencil Lines.

Once again...putting something on a stick makes it better.

Witch Hat

One more witch hat. I promise.
Maybe.
This one was made with Pink Paislee Phantom goodness.
I made a cone and made small cuts in the bottom to make it lay flat.
Then I hot glued it to a giant circle.
The bird cage is a Sizzix die glittered up.
I didn't think that was enough so I made some flowers which are also a Sizzix die.
It needed a giant glitter spider...of course.
It still didn't look like enough so I added some real feathers and made some paper feathers too.
This isn't for a spooky witch...this is for a stylish, international witch.

Cake Plate Banner

Let's make another banner, shall we?
For this one, I used a Lifestyles QuicKutz Pennant Border Banner Die.
I cut the triangles off though and tied them together with some embroidery floss.
I purchased this cake plate many years ago and it had small charms hanging down.
Over the years, it's broken for one reason or another and I thought that it needed a face lift.
This is an easy project.

Here is the plate. You can see the holes where the charms would hang.
I cut a 1" strip of white cardstock and used a Martha edge punch.
Then I took some Pink Paislee Hocus Pocus paper and made the banner.
Viola!

Spider Suckers Redux

I like that picture...it is like a spider sucker line up.
I have made these before but they are worth revisiting because I am a)lazy b)busy c)trying to get them at the top of my blog for easy reference on my phone...which may or may not be covered under Letter a.
Anyhoo...
These are super easy to make and make a great classroom project for the kiddos.
First we are going to (literally) dust off some punches...yep...we are going to use that corner punch that you had to buy 15 years ago when you first started scrappin'. We will also use a small scallop punch and one just a wee bit bigger and some pretty paper. I am using Blackbird from MME.

You will also need suckers. I used the caramel apple ones that you find at Halloween time, but anything will work. Since I pop dot the back, they don't even have to be flat.
I start by punching out all the components, then we will put it all together, assembly line style!
I also ink the edges...I am just like that...you don't have to be as psychotic.

First take the smaller black ones(that look like Thin Mints) and attach them to the larger scallop.
I made 6 legs for each spider...yes, I am aware that they actually have 8 legs however, the other two legs looked like they were coming out of the top of the spider's head. SO...6 it is!
For the eyes...I like glow in the dark...you can use whatever you want. I also didn't want them all matchy-matchy so some of my spiders have 1 eye, some have 2, some have 3, some have different sizes for eyes...again, up to you. If it bothers you, make them all the same.
After all the spiders are assembled, adhere them to your sucker. I used pop dots because my suckers were lumpy and I like the relief the pop dot gives the sucker.
Also...the kids can take the spider off the front super easy.

I've Been Framed

This is so easy to make!
All you need is a frame and a transparency.
First, I took the glass out of the frame.
I added a piece of paper from Pink Paislee's Phantom line.
Then I took one of the transparencies from the same line and added on top.
I didn't add adhesive or anything, the lip of the frame keeps it in place.
Easy Peasy.
You can write on the transparency with a dry erase marker.
I embellished with more Phantom goodness.
Viola! Done.

Phantom Banner

I la-la-la LOVE the Phantom line from Pink Paislee.
That orange polka dot paper is so fabulous!!
This line is so versatile, you could totally use it for non-Halloween projects.
I am just SO darn excited that it is October!
The leaves, cooler weather, baseball and fantasy football, baby!!!
Woohoo!
I used my trusty sizzix banner die and a spider punch for this puppy.
oh, and glitter...tons and tons of glitter!! Weeeeeeee!!!
Have I told you how much the Martha Stewart score thingy has made my life easier?
Oh.my.heck. Those foldy accordion paper rosettes are a breeze...
and way easier than my crease on the edge of the table and eyeball it method.

I'm the Good Witch

Halloween is my favorite time of the year.

I love making decorations for my house.

This hat was super easy to make.

I used Canvas Corp papers and burlap shapes.

I made the hat itself by making a cone and gluing it to a circle that I cut from the large dot paper.

The label is a Tim Holtz die with a hole punched in the top.

It is cut from Chalkstock. (O.M.G. I love this stuff!)

You can write a message and then change it when you want!

Awesome!

I strung some Canvas Corp black jute through the hole to look like it was dropping down from the spider.

Here, I used a spiderweb die, tree die, 3D flower die and label die.

I also used a crow and spider punch and plenty of glitter!

This hat also serves as a warning for others if you are having a bad day.

You simply flip the label around to reveal the other side:

I love alphas.
Thickers make me so happy.
I whipped this gift up this weekend.
I finally got to use that bird punch on the top.
I kept the embellishments simple because not everyone loves the Full Cassie.
I used Echo Park's newest line Happy Days.
The colors are fabulous!
I punched the heart then glazed it and added a rhinestone.
Ya gotta get a little Cassie'd.
You could do this with leftover alphas or mix up the colors and fonts, that would be super cute!

I don't always get to see my banners and Etsy orders in action.
When Deb emailed me to say that her party was going to be featured on Hostess with the Mostess, I squealed.
Out loud.
You can check out her gorgeous party above.
She did an amazing job.
I totally want to eat that cake.
It proves my stick theory too.
Everything is better on a stick.
Those flags and pinwheels on sticks are better because of the stick!
Without it, you wouldn't be able to put them into the top of the cake.

Back To School Time

It's back to school time!
I made this banner for Cayson's teacher for the first day.
I think his teacher has the longest name evah.
I tried to squeeze all those Thickers on there without it looking like a big mess.
I used Pink Paislee's Old School line.
It is one of my faves. Love the plaids.
The mini clothespins are Canvas Corp.
The tags and word stickers are October Afternoon.
This fits perfectly into the new theme at Paper Issues!

Baseball Party!

This party went out the door today!
I have been gluing like mad lately.
It seems that it is party season!
These papers are from October Afternoon and are some of my favorite.

The hats are for the Birthday boy and his guests.
Yes, he is turning 30...I think it is fabulous!

These pennants fit into my "stick theory".
If you glue anything on a stick, it makes it better.
Try it.
It won't let you down.

Case in point...baseballs.on.sticks.
Ca-ute!
Off to switch gears...doing a girly birthday party using some Pink Paislee goodness.

I never shared the projects that I did for CHA.
This is a wall hanging with Pink Paislee Mistables.
I used the alphas, paper and Scallop Ribbon.
The bees are a die from QuicKutz.
I cut the wings from the scallop ribbon fabric.
I added Saffron Glimmer Glaze to the edges and to the hive.
Then I thought it needed some dots.
That is all for now.
Back to accordion folding paper for banners!

Love is All You Need

It all started about a year ago.
One fabulous girl found my Etsy shop.
She loved the October Afternoon papers I had used in a banner and wanted me to make a li'l something for her wedding.
100 cupcake wrappers, 100 cupcake toppers and a ginormous banner later, she wasn't done.
She wanted to add another banner.
I think it is one of my most favorite.
It reminds me of my Grandma's old linens.
It still incorporates the papers from her wedding and she can hang it year round.
What a fantastic idea.
I added the alphabet beads to the end because I thought it would remind them of their day.
The bigger banner has their names on it.
I will share that project once she has the wedding.
Now I am off to finish some more Baseball banners...tis the season.

Initially, Romantic Homes had taken pictures of this banner strung across an old truck.
I sent it in with my other banners.
You can read about that as well as see the other banners in this post.
Since this banner wasn't in the July issue, I thought they didn't use it at all.
Then I got an email asking if I would sell the banner in the August issue.
I said I am not in the August issue, I am in July.
She said um, well this is a picture of a Celebrate banner strung across an old truck with your info.
What? Could it be?
I set out to find said issue but to no avail. September is already out.
Then Miss Bethany saw my distress and came to my rescue!
She knows a magical place where it is raining Romantic Homes Magazines.
Oooooohhhhh! I bet there are Unicorns there.

My assignment was to create beach inspired banners.
October Afternoon papers made that an easy task!
I have stockpiled this weathered wood paper.
It always makes me happy when I can use some of the paper I hoard.
Feels like I have won something.
Nevermind that I have stacks of paper taller than I am.
I am a winner.

I thought this was a perfect time to show a banner I made for a Candy Land party.
I totally love that Sizzix ice cream die.
...and you know clouds go with everything!
I added popsicle buttons to the middles of the pinwheels.
It's so darn yummy...I want to eat it.

It's no secret that I love to make diaper cakes.
When I saw the Soiree line from Pink Paislee I knew I needed to use it for one.
...or two.
I used the new banner die from QuicKutz.
It is a 12" border die, but you can cut it up and use those triangles anywhere!
It bends nicely when the triangles are together too.
I added a twine trail for the butterfly...because twine is awesome.
The flowers are a die from Sizzix.

This is the second cake.
I used a Stampin' Up die from Sizzix for the large butterflies.
Then I broke out my Martha Butterfly punch for some smaller ones.
Do you see the base?
I used a QuicKutz cupcake liner die!

The toppers were made to match the invitations that everyone received for this baby shower.
It was a lot of fun to make.

Romantic Homes Magazine!

I am so excited!!
I picked up the July issue of Romantic Homes magazine and there I am!
Well, there is my paper...close enough.
Pages 66-71...with pies!
It's a match made in heaven.

When I was contacted, she wanted something rustic for 4th of July using non traditional colors.
I immediately thought about the Starlight line from Pink Paislee.
She said they needed it overnighted...oh, ok.
I emailed Pink Paislee at 10:30 at night and said I had a paper emergency and they said No Problem!
I hopped in my car and picked up the paper...they are right down the road.
How awesome is that!!!!!!
The next day I sent everything to the photo shoot.
I have already been contacted by someone to buy the celebrate banner that is in the first picture.
I originally made it for a cake but they stuck it in 2 pies...that's good too!!
I would like to publicly thank Pink Paislee for their amazing generosity and flexibility.

These were so stinkin' easy!
I cut a rectangle from black Bazzill Swiss Dot Cardstock and glued it to a stick.
I used the Everything is more Awesome when glued to a stick Theory.
I used my wicked awesome Skull die from Cuttlebug and BAM! Done!

This was such a fun party!
I used Echo Park Little Boy paper, Bazzill Kraft, Polka Dot paper from Canvas Corp and Zebra Glitter Paper from American Crafts...it is so awesome!!!

Baseball Birthday!

I love the way this party turned out!
The baseball theme is one of my favorites, mostly because I REALLY love baseball.
This was also my first stab at a birthday hat.
I used my Martha Stewart scoring board for the rosette and it made things SO much easier!
Nice and clean too.

Next up is the banner...you knew there would be one.
That red paper from October Afternoon is one of my favorites!

I got this die for my birthday and I could not resist using it!
I love those pennants.
Honestly just put anything on a stick and it increases its awesomeness exponentially.

Rainbow Goodness

This weekend was THE party.
I made a rainbow cake for Miss B's Rainbow-Unicorn-Mustache-Taco Birthday Party.
For the banner on top of the cake: I colored white Thickers with an ink pad.
For the cake:
I used 2 White Cake box mixes.
I made one box at a time, followed the instructions right on the box.
I divided the batter out 3 ways for each box. Then I added the food color.
Use Food Color gel. I wanted more of a neon color, so one bottle of color was all I used.
If you want your cake to be red-red, you will need to use more than one tube.
Make sure that you also keep some red color for orange and purple.
I LOVE my buttercream frosting. I doubled the recipe on this one and it was not enough.
1 stick of butter, room temperature
3 3/4 cups powdered sugar
3-4 tablespoons of milk
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
(Use real butter, use real vanilla)
Put your butter in a bowl and beat it until it is fluffy.
Then add everything else, beat on low for a minute then on med for another minute.
This is my go-to frosting.
We use it on cakes, cookies...everything!
It is versatile too...add lemon, mint, cinnamon...you can add anything to it!
I wanted to get the girls some kind of trough for their popcorn.
I found these rainbow buckets and added a tag to the front with their name.
This way I knew who was making the most mess.

Those little robots were a late addition.
The girls called them Mexican robot astronauts.
They have mustaches. They are super cute.
The girls jumped on the trampoline in the rain.
We went to the mall for a scavenger hunt and the girls assaulted the Easter Bunny.
He didn't seem to mind. I posted the pictures on my Facebook.
Since all the girls aren't mine, I probably shouldn't post them on a public blog.
A good time was had by all, including me.

I love making diaper cakes almost as much as I love eating real cake.
I used more Echo Park Little Boy paper for this diaper cake.
I seriously LOVE it!
I.cannot.stop.
This little plane is on the second tier.
It's my favorite part. The baker's twine makes me SO happy.

Here is a picture of the banner that is hanging above the cake.
I really love the polka dot and plaid!
I am also getting my money's worth from that cloud punch.

Rainbow Day!

Today is my daughter's birthday.
I tell her is it MY birthday since I am the one who gave birth but she doesn't think that is funny.
Her: Really? Are we going to do this every year?
Me: Um, yeah...pretty much.
Her party theme request this year was Rainbows, Unicorns, Mexican tacos and Mustaches.
I love that she had to add Mexican to the tacos.
I thought about gluing a horn onto a horse but I don't have a horse die.
I am making the girls unicorn horns to wear. Miss B. is VERY excited about that.
You would think that she is 8 but no...she is 12.

I had another Genius moment!
I made these little guys' mustaches with a punch.

Can you see it? I used the top of the lip for the mustaches.
I don't have much of that rainbow Sass paper left...I only allow it to be used for special occasions.
If she knew I had more, she would take it.
The older she gets, the more she takes...jewelry, barrettes, shoes...she's a toad.
I am planning a sleepover for 7 and a scavenger hunt at the mall.

Springtime Steampunk

This banner is so dark and large, it was hard to photograph.
I really loved the way it turned out.
I used Graphic 45 Steampunk Debutante papers.
The gears are Tim Holtz Sizzix and the film strip is Tim Holtz too.
The banner is a retired Sizzix die as well.
The flowers are a 3D die from Sizzix. Of course I used a ton of punches!
I also used Jute string from Really Reasonable Ribbon.

Pattern Wrapping Paper

I wanted to wait until Kim received this gift before I posted about it.
I am sure that I am not the first person to think of this idea.
When I thought of it though, it felt like a Genius moment.
I wanted some kind of wrapping that was as awesome as the recipient.
I absolutely LOVE patterns. This is a Simplicity skirt pattern.
I buy patterns all the time. I never use them...I just buy them.
That is another post...or therapy session...whatever.
I wrapped her Loo Love in pattern paper and tied on a tag.
I made the tag with the Portrait line from Crate Paper.
I also used Pop dots...they are your friend.
Seriously...they have changed my life. Yep...that dramatic.
My whole life.

I whipped this little ditty up this morning for a friend for her birthday.
I love it so much I want one for my own bathroom door.
No, I am not British...but I like saying Loo instead of commode, bathroom or water closet.
It just sounds fancy.
I used more Portrait from Crate Paper and some Maya Road Chipboard.
I took the glass out of the frame so that I could add embellies.
Let me tell you about a die that you MUST get.
It is the 3D flower die from Sizzix.
I remember making those flowers the olden way(LOL).
Cutting out a swirly line on a piece of paper..Never again!
It made it so easy...I just took my tweezers and rolled it up.
OMG! I want to tell the world!

This was a crazy week!
We had 2 days in the 80's and this morning I woke up to this:

It was the craziest snow ever. It was just perched on top of the grass.
It wasn't anywhere else, just on the tippy top. Kinda cool.
It's noon, now it's gone. 70's this weekend! I love the midwest!!

It was a Banner Week!

This week was a busy week!
The It's a Boy banner also has cupcake toppers and a diaper cake.
Big Surprise...I used Echo Park's Little Boy paper. More details to come this week.

This Nat banner was an order for "one just like" I had already made.
I get a lot of that...and I don't mind at all!!
I used Cosmo Circa for this one.

This is also a "one just like" order. She saw it on my blog and asked if I would do one for her.
Um, heck yeah!! I used October Afternoon's Modern Homemaker for this.

There will be another post about this one later this week too. She gave me the invitation and said Go!
I just so happened to have just got a shipment of Emma's Shoppe from Crate Paper.
It worked perfectly! There are cupcake toppers with this one as well. More to come!

This was for a baby shower. The theme was Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.
The baby's name was Starr...SO much fun! I had an actual paper emergency for this one.
I had no lavender paper in this house. I have a scrapbook store here...no lavender.

I was scared of this order at first.
It was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles...that is pretty important!
I love them!
It is also commercial and I struggle with that. LOL! I think it turned out fab!
Yep...that is more Echo Park Little Boy paper on the pinwheels.

This one I got back this week. I made it to go in the top of a cake. It was actually used for a pie.
You will be seeing more of this one. It will be in Romantic Homes Magazine around the 4th of July!
I am so darn excited.
I owe Pink Paislee a HUGE thank you!!
They had an order for me at 10:30 at night to come pick up.
It is a good thing that they are close.
This was an emergency too!
I made everything that night and had to Next Day Express it to the photo shoot.
Which is another story for another time.

I tucked a flower between the kraft and scalloped circle...turned out super cute!

I just bought ones from American Crafts and they are substantial.

My first picture with my Big Girl camera.
I took it because it was the closest thing I could find...LOL!
I have no idea what I am doing.
There are buttons and letters and numbers that mean nothing to me.
I could use the manual as a booster seat.
I love it so far. It is a Canon Rebel with some numbers and letters.
I want to get back all the projects I have sent out and re photograph all of them.
I am SO looking forward to better pictures.

I used October Afternoon Modern Homemaker papers.
I also used a Maya Road trinket pin instead of a brad for the pinwheel center.
It looks like a diamond...I love diamonds.
I might as well use my jewelry plier-y thingys for something, right?
I twisted the straight pin part right around til it was flat.

I Love a Nice Piece of Wood

This started off as a big 4x4 hunka wood.
I sliced off 1 inch pieces, then wiped them down with a half white paint/half water mix.
Nothing fancy...I used a paper towel. LOL!

My children actually like school.
Which is fantastic because I like for them to be at school.
Mommy needs her "me" time.
The 100th day of school has been put off 5 times now.
From the look of it they aren't going to school tomorrow either.
Mother Nature clearly has it out for us here in the midwest.
I made this banner for my son's teacher.
When you are in Kindergarten, 100 days is a BIG deal!
He loves school. He loves his teacher. That makes me SO happy.
When they finally go back...they can celebrate October Afternoon style.

My son had it on his iPod. That and Striped Sweater. LOL!!!

John Deere Green

One of my favorite songs of all time is Joe Diffie's John Deere Green.
Last Christmas, I received a John Deere blanket made just for me which I absolutely LOVE!
I grew up on a farm. I miss it.
There isn't much farmin' goin' on here in the city.
I also got the Red Sequin Spotlight from Coach.
I thought it was pretty funny that those two gifts were pretty much polar opposites.
It was kind of a snapshot of my life.
I feel like I have had this layout in my brain forevah!
I am really glad that I waited because I feel like I have found my own style.
Anyhoo...I used some Bella Blvd and my trusty punches as well as some Mists and Dymo tape.
Oh...and Sequins...there must be sequins.

Wreath Gift Card Holder

So..I am not a big fan of giving gift cards...but some people just insist.
I needed a little something more to add to the card itself.
Here is what I came up with using Echo Park paper.
I love it because it can be very masculine...this is important to a 6 year old boy!

First, we make the bugle wreath above. Cut 14 2 1/2" squares and roll them into a bugle shape.
Then glue them down to a backing piece. Here I used a circle.

Next we are going to make the envelope for the gift card. You may be able to just affix the envelope that you received in the store...do that if you want to...I NEED mine to match.
SO...We are going to cut a 5 1/4" x 5 1/4" square. Next score your sides.
Two parallel sides at 2" and the other two parallel sides at 2 1/2"

Then cut out the notches at the corners so that your envelope will lay flat.

Pull the two short sides in and the bottom up, affix with glue.

Next, I trimmed off the tip of the envelope so that my star punch would fit over it.

Punch out the star and flip it over.

Place it back in the cut out area and add a pop dot.

Keeping it flat, bring the bottom of the envelope to the top and press.

Bam! The star acts like a button hole! Woot! Add it to the back of the wreath and Viola! You have a wicked awesome gift card holder PLUS if you add some ribbon to the top, it is also an ornament! Yay us!!!

Don't have a star punch? I also used a heart on this wreath!

Tussie Mussie Goodness

My Tussie Mussie is on the Crate Paper blog today! Yay!!
I love the idea of a tussie mussie almost as much as I like the name!
If I had another child, which I will not, I would name her Tussie Mussie.
ok...if I had a cat...ok...if I had 2 cats...the first would be named Kitty Chesney because that is the best cat name evah! The second Tussie Mussie.

I made this one with Crate Paper. The holiday papers this year are so awesome!
All that pink and those polka dots...oh yeah!!!
I also used some chipboard pieces and a border sticker around the top.
I used some of the chipboard and paper elements to make the tag that is hanging on the left.

Bugle Size Wreath

Ok...so I made the giant waffle cone Chez Wreath...now it is time for some Bugle size wreaths.
I love Bugles...those yummy little snacks...the caramel ones are the bomb...fo sho.
I thought I would make these for package decorations...they serve as tags too.
THEN when you are done, you can hang it on the tree. It's a Threefer! Woot!
This is some Crate Paper goodness...Don't you just love those colors!!!
It literally took me longer to warm up the hot glue gun than it did to assemble this bad boy.
So easy!!
I used 2.5" squares for the bugles, glued them to a scallop circle just like the one on the front and then added more scallop circles and a banner with Haley's name for some pizazz.
I'm bringing back the word Pizazz. It is totally underused.

Echo Park Wreath

This is my first stab at a paper cone wreath.
There will be more, I am sure.
I used Echo Park paper and embellishments.
...and Cassie'd it up with some super fab sequins.
I am going to try some smaller versions of this wreath and use them as tags for gifts.
I think the smaller will be easier to maneuver.
I made this with 6 x 6 paper...because I wanted to start with a small one and then use 12 x 12 for the one for gifts...um, no.
This is a little over a foot wide.
OMG! Can you imagine one that is almost 3 feet wide...I might have to do one to cover a wall or something. LOL!

I switched it up a little bit for this advent calendar.
I decided to see if smaller magnets would work better.
I really like the dimension they give.
I love this Echo Park paper!
There is just enough of the red that it doesn't take over.
I really like the blue tones.
Of course, it wouldn't scream Cassie if I didn't add sequiiiinnnns!! ( I sang that)

Happy Birthday!

I used some Cosmo Cricket goodness to create this Happy Birthday sign.
The alphas are Thickers, natch.
I also broke out the Martha Stewart Butterfly punch.
The sprinkles on the cupcake are bugle beads that I attached with some dimensional adhesive.
The "frosting" is made from ribbon.
I hope you LOVE it as much as I do!!!

Cake or Death?

I hope that you got that reference to Eddie Izzard...if not, you must check out Dress To Kill...he is the funniest comedian ever. Yep, evahhhh.
I made a cake...it is one that I make a lot and I thought I would share this gift with the rest of the world.
It is the most amazing cake and so easy to make.

2 cans of Cherry pie filling
1 stick of butter
1 white cake mix
1 can of crushed pineapple (or two...I use two but I really like pineapple)

That's it! Pour the Cherry pie filling into a 12 x 9 pan, dump the dry cake mix on top of it, cut the stick of butter into pats and lay them on top of the dry cake mix. Then pour the pineapple on top of that. Put it into the oven for an hour(ish) on 350 and BAM!
I could totally sit down and eat a whole pan...if it weren't for these kids trying to take it from me, I would.
Share, schmare.
Whilst making this cake, I had a revelation! What if I used chocolate cake mix? OMG!
So, I drove back to the grocery store and got more cherry pie filling and a chocolate cake mix.
My husband and daughter thought I should put pineapple on top of that one too and I ignored them cause that sounds grodie.
So...I threw the cherries in a pan, poured the dry cake mix on top, cut up my butter and baked.
Holy Schnikeeessss! It was amazing! I had it for dinner and again for breakfast. Good times.
I have said it before and I will say it again, Fat people are harder to kidnap. I eat because of this reason.
I am going to try the chocolate recipe again with a brownie mix and let you know how that turns out.
My people have requested that I make something with a lemon cake mix...um, ok!

Yeah...go ahead...lick your screen...mmmmmmm

Halloween Advent Calendar

I originally made this 24 spot muffin tin as an advent calendar for Christmas.
It was perfect...24 muffin spaces, 24 days until Christmas.
I really wanted to make one for Halloween so I just decided to use it again, even though there are 30 days until Halloween in October...who is gonna notice? (6 year olds, that's who)
Anyway...I love Halloween and I seriously love scrapbook paper!
This paper is the Blackbird line from MME...it is amazing with a side of awesome sauce.
I am totally making an advent for Easter and Valentine's Day and oh! My birthday!!! Yeah!!
Birthday Advent...I just made that up!
We can shove some tiny Coach goodies and maybe some MAC eye shadows behind the "doors".

OK...for real though...if you want to make one of these...grab some paper, embellishments and magnets.
I took some magnets off my fridge...you know the ones with the football schedule on it...or pizza delivery or insurance guy...whatever...reduce-reuse-recycle!
Cut your paper to fit over the hole in the muffin tin, glue it onto the front of the magnet and embellish at will!
Place treats behind the magnets...my kids like candy and cash.
Here is my secret for making the muffin tin stand up...

It is a stocking holder and I use it all.the.time.
I bought it after Christmas when it was next to free...I LOVE stars and cast iron!!

I made this layout using some awesome products that I received from SEI.
My daughter immediately stole the monsters from me...I managed to wrestle enough away from her to make this layout.
I love ric rac...seriously...L.O.V.E it. I use it on everything.
I used it here to highlight the I heart nerds title. It added texture and color at the same time.
My absolute favorite way to attach ribbon is with a tiny attacher.
I used a pop dot to raise the heart in the title.

I absolutely love the Moonrise line from SEI! It was perfect for my Wedding photos that I have not scrapped. I have been married for 13 years! That's what happens when you have kids...you lose focus, LOL! I also used a couple of Martha punches and some Prima flowers, butterflies and rhinestones.

Spin Me

I made this pin cushion for a friend who loves all things Disney.
I thought about MY favorite part of Disney...the teacups, of course!
Then added her favorite colors and this is what I came up with!
I love it!
I took a cup and saucer and glued them together.
I cut out a circle from a piece of black fabric, in this case, I used fleece because I thought that it wouldn't show the holes from the pins as much.
Then I started to hot glue the fabric circle to the inside of the teacup.
I left an opening so I could shove in some stuffing.
It needed to be Cassie'd up a bit so I added some tulle and red ribbon to cover the mechanics.
Top it off with some Glitter Thickers and red Minnie buttons...BAM!
It's a pin cushion!
